Motorcycle accidents involving high speed may be deadly

On Behalf of | Oct 24, 2016 | Motorcycle Accidents |

A vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed is a hazard because the driver is likely not considering the risks of his or her actions and may be unable to stop in time to avoid a collision. Motorcycle accidents involving speeding cars can be deadly to the motorcyclist, who has little protection against the impact of another vehicle. One family in California is mourning the loss of a loved one who died when a speeding car struck his motorcycle.

Just before midnight one recent night, a 60-year-old man was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a Tesla speeding through an intersection. The operator of the motorcycle was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead by paramedics. Meanwhile, the driver of the car abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene of the accident.

Tesla is a highly efficient electric car with technology that makes it difficult to steal. Nevertheless police learned that the car had been stolen from its owner only hours before the crash. Until police contacted the owner, he was not aware that the vehicle was missing. Investigators continue their search for the person who allegedly stole the car and caused the fatal accident.

Like many who lose loved ones in motorcycle accidents, the family of this California man may be struggling to come to terms with his death. In addition to missing his presence in their lives, they are most likely dealing with funeral expenses and possibly the loss of his income. By contacting a personal injury attorney, they will learn whether they have sufficient cause to file a claim against the person who struck and killed their loved one.
