There are many different users of the roadways. Despite whether a person is cycling, walking or driving, each user should be able to safely utilize California roadways. Unfortunately, one man has passed away after police say he was a victim of a hit-and-run accident.

Police say they received reports about a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene one night in late April. According to reports, the 53-year-old pedestrian was walking on the shoulder of the roadway when a pickup truck drifted onto the shoulder and struck him. Emergency responders attempted CPR but were unable to revive the man.

Police initiated a search for the vehicle and ultimately located a suspect in the parking lot of a nearby grocery store. The man was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. He has since been arrested and faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.

It remains to be seen how the criminal charges regarding this hit-and-run accident will be resolved. While charges may provide a sense of justice to the deceased victim’s surviving family members, they will do little to help them with the financial burdens they may be facing as a result of his death. Many in California who have lost loved ones in such an unexpected manner struggle with funeral expenses and loss of wages. As a result, some turn to the civil court for relief. Many people have received an award of damages following such a loss to help prevent financial instability.
