Car accidents a likely result of drinking and driving

When someone gets behind the wheel after he or she has consumed several alcoholic beverages, there is a possibility he or she may cause an accident. Impaired driving is the cause of many car accidents on California roads. Recently, a young man was arrested after police say he caused an accident that led to the deaths of four people and injuries to several others.

Hundreds of people were out enjoying a motorcycle festival in a local park when they witnessed a pickup truck fly off the bridge above them and land in their midst. In addition to the deaths, three people were seriously injured and several others had minor injuries. This marked the fifth time since 1980 that a vehicle has gone through the guardrails to crash in or near the park.

The 24-year-old driver of the pickup also suffered from critical injuries and was hospitalized. Authorities said he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electrician and was stationed at a nearby naval base. Soon after the incident, he was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and causing injury or death. A Navy spokesperson stated there has been no definitive decision on the man’s military future.

Because of his intentional decision to drink and drive, this man will most likely face a bleak future. Not only might he face possible jail time, fines and future employment challenges, the festival attendees who were injured as well as the families of those who were killed may choose to file personal injury or wrongful death lawsuits against him. California residents who have suffered physical harm from car accidents or any other negligent action of another person have the right to seek financial compensation that, if awarded, will help pay the various bills accumulated as a result of their injuries.
