What you should do in the wake of a dog bite or animal attack

On behalf of Nield Law Group, APC | Nov 20, 2015 | Wrongful Death

Dogs are man’s best friend, as the saying goes. And for the most part, this is true. Many people own dogs and most of these dogs are kind and loving. They aren’t frightened by other people or attack other people. But there is a minority in this group of animals that are vicious, and they end up hurting innocent people.

The injuries these people suffer as a result of the dog attack can be catastrophic, or even fatal. Granted, some of these injuries can be minor in nature, but that doesn’t mean they are any less severe. Dog bites can leave terrible scarring and even permanently damage limbs.

So what is an injured person to do? Well, after being attacked by a dog, the bite victim needs to take care of himself or herself. Get the medical help that you need to recover as best as possible from your injuries.

Once you are taken care of, then you can begin the task of mounting a potential case against the owner of or the person responsible for the dog. There are many different parties that could be held responsible for your dog bite incident, including the dog owner, the property owner, or even the owner’s parents (depending on the circumstances).

Look, dogs can be friendly, and most of them are. But when they aren’t so friendly and they cause you to suffer (and possible deal you life-changing injuries), then you have to hold the necessary parties responsible so that you can have peace of mind.
