Personal motor vehicles are an integral part of everyday life in San Diego. They have become so ingrained in modern society that residents of this city can sometimes forget that cars and trucks are dangerous machines. One moment of distraction or inattention behind the wheel can easily lead to a life-altering traffic accident. These collisions can be especially serious when they involve pedestrians.
The Chula Vista Police Department is in the process of investigating a fatal pedestrian accident. The deceased pedestrian had been walking down E Street when he was struck by a car. The authorities are requesting the public’s assistance in piecing together the events leading up to the crash.
The driver of the vehicle was cooperative with law enforcement authorities. It was determined that this driver was not intoxicated. However, reports do not indicate whether the driver may have been distracted or speeding when the accident occurred.
The victim sustained critical injuries as a result of the collision, and he was unconscious when law enforcement officials arrived. The deceased was transported to the UCSD Medical Center and died there shortly after arriving. According to some witnesses, the deceased was walking across the street when he was struck.
Pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries and fatalities. Either situation may lead to physical and emotional damage, as well as extensive financial losses. All of these may be addressed through personal injury or wrongful death litigation. Those who have been the victims of pedestrian accidents may wish to contact an attorney. Doing so may give these victims the chance to explore their legal options, including the possibility of a lawsuit.
