Pedestrian killed in San Diego by suspected drunk driver

On Behalf of | Aug 20, 2013 | Pedestrian Accidents |

Pedestrians crossing streets in San Diego rely on motorists to obey all traffic laws. In the event that a driver fails to stop at a light or stop sign, or accelerates around curves at speeds far above the posted limits, an unsuspecting pedestrian rarely has time to move out of the way.

Whether a driver was under the influence or alcohol or drugs, texting, or simply not paying attention, failure to drive safely can have life changing consequences. A pedestrian is no match for a car, and a pedestrian accident can result in serious injuries and even death.

A 25-year old pedestrian lost his life in San Diego when he was hit by a Ford Ranger driven by another 25-year old man. The accident occurred just prior to 7:00 a.m. when the vehicle sped down an area road and crashed into the victim who was in the street. Law enforcement believes the motorist was a drunk driver; he faces a felony DUI offense. Authorities are continuing their investigation of the fatal pedestrian accident.

The man’s family will likely grieve his untimely death throughout their lifetimes. They may have to endure a criminal trial while the man’s case winds its way through the criminal justice system. In many cases, a victim’s family chooses to file a wrongful death action against the person who was at fault. It may be possible to recover compensation associated with the loss of a loved one by asserting claims such as loss of companionship, loss of earnings and benefits, and pain and suffering.
