Chiropractor sued for Playboy model's death

Following the death of Katie May, the 34-year-old woman who had modeled in Playboy, back in February after a chiropractic alignment went drastically wrong, her ex has filed a seven-figure lawsuit on behalf of their daughter.

Last month, the Los Angeles County Coroner's office announced that May's death was attributable to "neck manipulation by chiropractor." The chiropractor, Eric Swartz, manipulated May's neck, tearing her left vertebral artery. This caused blood to be unable to reach her brain and resulted in a fatal stroke.

One chiropractor no affiliated with the case commented to PEOPLE magazine that what occurred was "very, very rare." Chiropractor and author Todd Sinett was quoted as saying, "Statistically speaking, . . . the chances of this happening are anywhere from one in one million to one in four million."

The estate of former Playboy model Katie May is seeking a seven-figure settlement from the chiropractor she visited just before her death with the intention of giving the money to Mia, her 8-year-old daughter.

The model's 8-year-old daughter, Mia, is her mother's only heir. Her father, as her guardian, filed suit against the doctor who was responsible. His lawyer stated to the magazine in his interview that they plan to submit their demand to the insurance carrier for Swartz, and hope that the matter will quickly resolve "to avoid further injury to all parties to this unfortunate tragedy."

The little girl's maternal grandfather reported that this development was "news" to him and the decedent's brother, but considered it to be the right thing to do as long as any proceeds were funneled directly to the child.

Most people go to a chiropractor seeking relief. If your condition is worsened by alleged malpractice or negligence, you, too, may wish to take legal action to pursue financial recovery.
