Elderly man killed in fatal San Diego automobile accident

Losing a loved one is never easy, and losing someone as a result of a car accident is especially tough. Family members may have trouble accepting a death that seems as though it could have been prevented. Many San Diego residents find themselves victims of serious and fatal automobile accidents, as one recent incident reminds us.

A man believed to be in his 70s is now deceased and his passenger sustained major injuries as a result of a crash in University City. Law enforcement said the elderly man was southbound on Genessee, making a left turn at a green light when a Prius ran a red light, colliding with his car. The Prius had also struck an Audi and then continued driving, eventually slamming into a pickup truck that was also making a left turn.

The pickup truck driver was not injured, but the driver of the Prius – a 39-year-old woman – and the driver of the Audi had minor injuries. Law enforcement closed the intersection so they could conduct an investigation. After the driver of the Prius was treated at the hospital, she was booked into jail on suspicion of drunken driving and manslaughter.

Driving under the influence can have major repercussions that extend beyond jail time. Families can be forever changed as the result of death and serious injury. Victims of these accidents may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses. Families should also seek damages for the loss of their loved one, including compensation for their pain and suffering. Those who wish to pursue a wrongful death claim should consult with an attorney who can build a strong case.
