A 19-year old woman was recently killed in a fatal car accident that took place northeast of San Diego. The details of the incident are still being investigated, but the 44-year old man who was driving the car that caused the collision insists that it was not his fault. The crash took place in the early morning hours when the man failed to see a fire truck in an intersection. His car collided with the fire truck which crushed the man’s car. The man was wrenched out of the car and survived, but his passenger lost her life in the fatal accident.

While the man has not been charged with a crime, his description of what happened may be challenged in the future. According to the man, he had been released from jail a day and a half before the crash. He explained that despite being married, he met up with the woman, who hoped to be a model, the next night at a restaurant to talk. When they left the restaurant in the wee hours of the morning, he had an open container in his car but insists he was not intoxicated. He also disagreed with firefighters that the fire truck involved in the accident had on its lights and siren.

If the final investigation report shows any wrongdoing by the man, the woman’s family will need to decide whether they want to file a lawsuit against him. When a negligent driver causes the loss of a loved one, the family may be entitled to recover all appropriate compensation which may include their expenses, loss of companionship, and pain and suffering.
