Teenager on drugs causes fatal San Diego car crash

Whether it is due to immaturity, hormones, or a feeling of invincibility, teenagers do not always make the best decisions. People in their mid to late teens can be impulsive, and do not realize how quickly one bad decision can have serious, life-altering consequences. This is especially true when teenagers drink alcohol or take drugs and then get behind the wheel. Such conduct can result in a fatal accident, forever altering the lives of the teenager and the victim’s family.

An 18-year old who recently caused a deadly car accident in San Diego was taken to jail upon his release from an area hospital; he was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and gross vehicular manslaughter. The fatal car crash occurred when the teenager drove his car across the median and into oncoming traffic at approximately 9:45 a.m. A 22-year old man was unable to avoid the teenager’s car, and the two cars collided, resulting in the man’s death. Authorities are continuing their investigation of the case and did not state the type of drugs ingested by the teenager.

It is tragic when a 22-year old is killed due to another’s negligence, and his friends and family are surely devastated by the loss of their loved one. The family may wish to discuss the matter with a personal injury attorney to learn about a civil cause of action against the teenage driver. While a monetary judgment based on a wrongful death claim cannot change what happened, it can help the family pay for current and future expenses associated with the tragedy.
