Biography

Ed Nield is the principal and partner of the Nield Law Group with his wife/partner, Gabrielle De Santis Nield and has over 35 years litigation experience. Mr. Nield has handled hundreds of medical negligence and other injury related cases over the course of his legal career, many of which were resolved by settlement or through successful jury verdicts. This has earned Mr. Nield the honor of admission into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).

In addition to his representation of Plaintiffs in medical negligence matters, Mr. Nield has and continues to provide health care professionals with legal defenses. This experience has provided Mr. Nield with unique insight into the cases he handles, as he is able to anticipate a defendant's position as to the various issues that may arise through the course of litigation. His ability to "see the whole playing field" is certainly a benefit for the firm's clients. In handling cases, Mr. Nield works closely with experts in all areas of medical specialty as well as with experts in hospital and nursing home care, life care planning, economics and vocational rehabilitation.

Ed and his wife have successfully defended the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitations (CDCR) employees in both federal and state courts when sued by state prisoners. Ed also practices maritime law defending cruise lines and their crew and medical staff when sued by passengers.

Mr. Nield's litigation experience includes appearances as lead counsel at hundreds of mediations, arbitrations and settlement conferences. He received his certification in mediation from the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution through Pepperdine University School of Law and serves as a mediator, arbitrator and Judge Pro Tem for the Riverside County Superior Courts. He has also provided mediation and arbitration services through the San Diego County Superior Court. Mr. Nield also conducts private mediations.

Ed Nield graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 and received a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business. He received his Juris Doctorate Degree and Masters in Business Administration from University of Denver in 1983 and 1984. He was a partner with the former medical malpractice defense firm of Dicaro, Nield and Coppo and Kramer, DeBoer, Endelicato and Keane. In 2008 he started his present practice, The Nield Law Group, and was joined with his wife Gabrielle, shortly thereafter.

Ed Nield is licensed to practice law in California, Colorado and Washington. He is a member of all the California United States District Courts, and the U.S. Court of Appeals Ninth Circuit. He is a member of the San Diego County and North San Diego County Bar, Riverside County Bar and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.
